Higher paid leave benefits from 2025

Because of a new law called SB 951 (Durazo), starting on January 1, 2025, people on leave from work who apply for Paid Family Leave or State Disability Insurance will receive 70-90% of their regular income, (up from 60-70%), for claims starting in 2025. In California, there are laws that support workers when they need time away from work to bond and care for a newborn, adopted, or foster child. It is important to learn about both the wage replacement program that provides partial pay and job protection laws that require your employer to give you your job back when you return to work.

If you are paying into California State Disability Insurance (CA SDI), you may be eligible to receive payments from the Employment Development Department (EDD) while on Paid Family Leave (PFL). PFL is a wage replacement program only.

The California Family Rights Act is a job protection law that protects workers when they need to take leave and have the right to return to work after their leave.
